Luxury 5th Floor Promenade Property, Lovingly Restored to Former Glory
This is a truly special property. The owners have lovingly restored this grand apartment and retained all its original features. Built in the early 1950s, it is situated on the fifth floor of the Stellamar building and the whole apartment block is like a grand old hotel. Stellamar is short for Stella Maris, which means "Star of the Sea". It goes without saying that when the Stellamar was built, it was one of the most prestigious apartment blocks of its time.

The entrance hall has pink marble floors and is adorned with plants and brass banisters that sweep up the stairs, with a lift to take you up to the apartment.

Situated on the fifth floor, with huge French windows almost throughout, the views from the living room and the bedrooms are truly spectacular. Coupled with high ceilings, marble floors, and parquet flooring in the bedrooms, this apartment recreates the quality and style of the 1950s enjoyed only by the wealthy. The apartment is 120 square metres in floor area, which is exceedingly spacious for a two bedroomed apartment.

Immediately on entering the apartment you can appreciate the fantastic period features such as internal doors with gold ornamentation, a large antique chest, an impressive console table, and an Art Deco mirror.

Moving through into the large lounge/dining room with double aspect floor-to-ceiling windows, the quality fitted solid wooden furniture meets the eye. There are alcoves with lighting adding interest, a built-in desk and bookcases, and a huge dining table and chairs, all from the 1950s. You really do feel that you are stepping back in time. The owner has recently added a high definition LCD 26-inch TV with cable and a DVD player. It should be noted that the sofa needs some repair, but as this requires specialist care, it is something that the owners hope to do in the near future, so it may still be in need of some repair when you visit. Above the built-in sofa is an impressive mural decorated in gold leaf. Although the apartment retains many original features, comfort has not been forgotten.

In the living area there are 5 floor-to-ceiling windows through which floods the room with an abundance of natural light (so bright in fact that on our first visit we had to wear sunglasses indoors!). The view from these windows is simply amazing.

Alfresco dining and drinking is very pleasant on the large terrace giving panoramic and unspoilt views over the Promenade des Anglais to the turquoise sea beyond, and as far as Cap de Nice and Cap Ferrat. In fact, the whole of the Baie des Anges can be marvelled at from this vanguard point. There is always something to see from the terrace, night or day, thanks in part to its position on the front and corner of the apartment block and being also on the fifth floor.

Moving out of the lounge back to the hallway brings you to the master bedroom. Two huge solid wood fitted wardrobes are on the right as you enter and on the left-hand wall is a large double bed and original 1950s bedside tables. There is a beautifully restored wooden parquet floor. French windows lead to a balcony giving out to a side street, also with a sea view.

(cont'd) Adjacent in the second bedroom, there are again spacious wardrobes and two beds, one small double and one single. Again, French windows lead onto a balcony with a sea view.

Whilst the beds are from the 1950s, all the mattresses are brand new so you are guaranteed a good night's sleep.

The kitchen has been completely renovated, and in keeping with modern living it has a breakfast bar with stools, a dishwasher, an oven and halogen hob, washing machine, and fridge freezer. The owner has taken great care for the modern kitchen to blend with the apartment's style as much as possible, and the original floor tiles and the ceramic sink have been preserved. The kitchen units are simple and white, and feature self-closing drawers.

The large bathroom has the original pale aqua fixtures, but all fittings have been replaced with modern equivalents. There is a bath with shower over, a bidet, large wash hand basin, and toilet. A large window with obscured glass ensures good quality natural light. There is also a separate shower room in deep turquoise with shower and large wash hand basin with separate toilet adjacent.

The block is situated half-way along the Promenade des Anglais opposite Poincaré Beach and about a five minute walk from the most famous and luxurious hotel in Nice, the Negresco and Florida Beach. Whilst you will need to stroll into the centre, it is certainly accessible and it takes approximately 20 minutes to walk into the centre of town for the Old Town and Place Massena. Many buses stop on the Promenade, so it will not be necessary to walk to the bus station for many day trips out. The area near the Stellamar building is full of hotels and restaurants are plentiful. It is a very pleasant 30-minute walk from the apartment, along the Promenade, to the port.

Due to the balconies and the many original features and antiques, this apartment is not suitable for children under 10. Please also note that like all our apartments, it is for non-smokers only.

We love this apartment, but we know it will not suit everyone. It is not typical of the majority of our apartments and retains an older style. The owners are keen to point out that some work still needs to be done on the apartment and this is reflected in the price.

We are flexible on arrival dates, times, and length of your stay. We can usually offer a discount on bookings of less than a week.
