Big in name and Big in flavour, Big Fernand is the place to be for burger lovers staying in Nice.
They first started in Paris, 2012 but 2015 was the year of global expansion; bringing Big Fernand to Hong Kong, London and importantly for us, to Nice. Centrally located on 52 rue Gioffredo, it is the perfect pit-stop for anyone spending time in the nucleus of the city, just a 5 minute stroll from Place Massena (and dangerously close for us Pebbles – it’s a minute from our office).
With a varied but not overwhelming selection of burgers to choose from, you're sure to find something that caters to your taste buds. The Portobello mushroom burger is a huge hit with vegetarians. Every few months brings an extra limited-edition burger to the range, so if you're feeling adventurous, look out for a little sticker on the menu which introduces a fresh flavour to the choices. We think most diners go for the la little formule (BTW, it’s not so little), but if you do want to upgrade for the big offering, and get a dessert, the lemon meringue ice-cream pot is delectable!
If none of the pre-designed choices appeal to you, you can also create your own burger, selecting whichever of the meats, cheeses, salads and sauces your heart desires (vegetarian options more than a nod).
From there, you can choose your side. We recommend the Paprika Fries (with a flavourful kick but not too spicy) although the normal ones are just as good. The perfect condiment to this is the vastly underrated home-made tomato ketchup.
The inside seats about 30 (a lot of shared wooden bench tables) and just one or two tiny tables outside (it’s not an outside dining sort of place). If you don't fancy eating inside, you can also order for delivery to enjoy from the comfort of your apartment terrace through the Deliveroo app.
