With its two Michelin stars, is one of those places you might overlook until a very special occasion arises. Life’s too short! Go now – it’s a fab experience, if you can get in that is, early-bird booking is essential (it took us three attempts before we secured a table for four).

Opulent surroundings are an understatement. The magnificent Regency style dining room, encompassed by extravagant 18th century wood panelling and featuring a striking portrait of Louis XV's daughter, the Duchess of Orleans room, is no less impressive than the Salon Royal hallway, gallery lobby with an abundance of modern art installations, and the welcome from the empire-cloaked doorman.

The fixed menu, without drinks, is 130 euros per person. If you order a la carte, you may see this rise to over 200 euros a person without drinks. With a menu that changes fortnightly to suit the seasonal produce, diners are guaranteed an innovative, gastronomic journey each time they eat here. To see the menus, visit their website.

Under the artistic eye of new head chef Virgine Basselot, a multi-award winning chef of a new modern generation, the French cuisine is an extravagant mix of inspiring flavours and refined presentation – basically a dish served before you that looks too good to eat.

Be sure to leave about three hours for the full dining experience, as the service is never rushed. Not that you’ll want to leave, and you can always stretch your legs between courses in the lobby. Some lucky guests who have dined here have found the service a tad stuffy – it is a little, but it goes with the territory, and we think it strikes the right balance. They are trying to make you feel special, so are going to respect some boundaries. We found the waiter team happy to explain the menu and the sommelier proudly recommended wines that complimented our food perfectly (and were most surprisingly not overpriced). In our view, the staff seemed to greatly care about their diners.

It's worth noting, there are sometimes offers on during the early week - such as one diner on the house, when accompanying a full paying diner.

Open Tuesday – Saturday for dinner only: 7pm – 10pm
