Cannes' museums

Although mostly famed for its glorious beach resort and film festival, Cannes still holds a great deal of culture and heritage which should not be overlooked. Don’t miss out on these museums whilst visiting this beautiful cosmopolitan town.

Musée de la Mer
Île Sainte-Marguerite

Oct-March, open Tues-Sunday 10:30-13:15 then 14:15-16:45

June-September, open Tues-Sunday 10:00-17:45

€6 entry fee. Free entry the first Sunday of each month.

Directions: From Cannes, follow the signs to the port and hop onto the boat that takes you to Île Sainte-Marguerite. Then follow the signs to the Musée de la Mer.

Situated in the royal fort of the island, the museum showcases collections of underwater and land archaeology. Enjoyable as well as educational, you can take a stroll around the grounds of the old fort whilst taking in the breath-taking views of the sparkly clear sea ahead.

Musée de la Castre
6 Rue de la Castre
Tel: 04.89.82.26.26
Oct-March open Tues-Sunday 10:00-13:00 then 14:00-17:00
April-June open Tues-Sunday 10:00-13:00 then 14:00-18:00
July & August open Mon-Sunday 10:00-19:00
September open Tues-Sunday 10:00-13:00 then 14:00-18:00

Adults €6, half price for students and children.

Directions: From the Gare Routière, head towards Le Suquet. The museum is inside the Castle.

Built by Iles de Lerin monks, this small museum is the token cultural attraction of Cannes. You can see Impressionist’s paintings; interesting pictures of old Cannes and some archeology displays. The best bit though is climbing the tower in the Museum, for breathtaking views.
